Smells Like A New Book

Traditional publishing, self-publishing, eBook, Ao3, etc. There are many ways to get our work out there nowadays but we can't always be certain everyone will like our book. Or even understand it or want to understand.

We have invigorated our Black lead characters to give them a story that will resonate with EVERYONE and entertain EVERYONE. No more throwaway Black girlfriends! We have real genuine Black love stories. We have a different perspective that is typical for most.

We are giving voice to the Black readers who just want to read about a Black story without the slavery or stereotypes. And it's not just Black people. We believe in DEI over here. We have characters with disabilities, characters who don't always speak English, characters who believe differently.  As we are American writers, it only makes sense to add a little of our American experiences. And it's REAL. And it's BOLD. And it's freaking fun.

So back to publishing... We are hoping to get our first work published this year or the next. Whether it's traditional or self-publish, we don't know yet. The traditional route depends on others and self-publish depends on you. Some want to go the eBook route. Some want to stay far away from it. Some want to do it all. Me personally, I have faith in our books. I want to go the traditional route. Our readers are out there.

Writing excites us!... Marketing? Not so much. We have cool ideas we throw around but IT. COSTS. MONEY. And time. Either we become the photographer, actors, models, animators, script writers and artists or we hire someone to do it. Some of you might say, "It don't take all of that. Just put it out there!" But this market is brutal. Breaking out into the entertainment industry is not easy. We have to do things that catches people's attention while keeping our dignity! And we're not nepo babies. We have to be rational about this because we want to succeed... The first time. We are still taking a leap of faith, obviously.

I like to think of these blog posts as an open diary to hold myself accountable to you. How do you do that? How do you hold yourself accountable? Or maybe you don't. You could be an individual who runs away from responsibility and accountability.  To each his own, I guess? ¯\\(ツ)/¯
