Eye-Catching One-Liner?

What if my first chapter is the "Grab them by the first sentence?" I never understood that say. Grab the reader's attention by the first sentence... Writers should write what they want and use guidelines occasionally. We don't want the same stories so why promote the same format? This isn't a Lifetime movie. (Hope I don't get a strike for name dropping.) But like I was typing, we don't want the same stories. I believe there are some unconventional stories out there that are ignored because it's different. Well, we do different here at Orange Quill. We have genres, not just one. And we have Black lead characters that are not disposable. I think a good opening should be the new norm. Read the first two pages and see what's up. We need to promote reading and finding out for ourselves. Read the back, the jacket flap and a page or two.  Then decide if you want to DNR. Unless you're a madman like Dirk. He doesn't put the book down even if he doesn't like it. "I gotta see it through to the end." Weirdo...
